A man who has spent his entire life at the public trough has nothing in common with the blue-collar crowd. He is a wolf in sheep’s clothing.

Have you ever wondered if there was a better solution to unions? Not just siding with unions are needed / good or unions are evil and force corporations to keep bad workers. There are arguments on both side for and against unions. But, what I want to know is .. Is there a better solution than unions? .. How about this idea .. Start a company or series of companies that solely focuses on hiring and placing baristas and bar tenders around a city. These companies would act like recruiting companies, and provide benefits that coffee shops and bars could not. In turn their employees all get group health care, sick days, have a larger pool to pull from when replacements are needed, and so forth. This company isn't a union, but to have enough pull as both a lobbying firm and a bargaining firm, they would need to hold a percentage of the work force in reserve to influence the market place.

📢 The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) has issued a new independent contractor rule, replacing the current one. The new rule changes the agency's guidance on how to analyze who is an employee or an independent contractor under the Fair Labor Standards Act. 🔍 The new rule implements a six-factor economic reality test (ERT) for assessing whether a worker is an employee or independent contractor. This article provides a general overview of the DOL's new independent contractor rule and the ERT factors. Stay informed about the new rule to ensure that you're correctly classifying workers and avoiding any legal issues.

In 2022, The New York Times technology workers joined the NewsGuild Union by a 4:1 margin. A half-day strike will occur tomorrow at 1 PM—the issue - where work can be done. Workers have been in contract talks for 15 months. The NLRB believes that the Times has violated Federal Law by unilaterally implementing an RTO/RTP (return to the past) plan without negotiating with this union.Unlike the recent action by the NLRB against "X" (formerly Twitter), in this case, a real union contract exists. See link for more on X: https://lnkd.in/gHgRinBeIn the absence of a written agreement regarding where work can be performed, either in an employee or Union agreement, most believe employers can require employees to work wherever they choose. The Communications Workers of America has been fighting legal battles over hybrid work at employers includingAlphabet Inc.andGrindr Inc. These firms have been accused of using return-to-office mandates as tools to try to defeat union organizing campaigns. Ultimately, these cases will be resolved in federal court. As RTO/RTP continues to deliver material indigestion for all workers, particularly those who have been reigned in, I suspect we will see more aggressive efforts by private sector knowledge worker unions on workplace flexibility. We know that 84% of workers want it. And more are likely to get it.

Trump slams 'hopeless' UAW after Biden endorsem*nt, warns Dems' 'insane' EV push would doom auto workershttps://lnkd.in/e743V2NkTrump is right on this. The auto industry is vital to the U.S. economy. Essential.EV’s will require much less labor, have lousy resale value, and aren’t reliable. The American Union worker and the Homeland supply chain is screwed. Unions will look for new sources of revenue….they will attempt to organize Starbucks, healthcare workers and low end service sector jobs. The middle class will be decimated.A relic of another era.

It's a long Labor Day weekend in the United States (mine starts in a half hour, anyway), and I just think it's vital to acknowledge how many worker protections exist in this country because of strong unions and organized workers.Unions are still fighting the good fight today, even in the face of opposition from corporate interests, in fields as diverse as journalism, entertainment, dining, hospitality, and even trades like electrical work and automotive assembly. We still have a long way to go—too far, if you ask me.But given the overwhelming white-collar makeup of LinkedIn's users, I'm asking you to take a second to think about the hard-nosed folks both past and present who continue to bust their asses and make sacrifices to lift up and ensure a fair wage, good benefits, and appropriate work conditions for their fellow laborers. And if you think labor unions solely exist for the benefit of blue-collar workers, think again. There are ways to organize your own workplace, no matter what you do.You just have to find the right resources. 😎 https://lnkd.in/guA-pFKx

I urge the Labour Party to keep its promise to scrap zero-hours contracts. These contracts predominantly benefit foreign-owned companies, such as those from the United States, at the expense of hardworking individuals in our country.Zero-hours contracts offer no job security, no guaranteed income, and place workers in a precarious position, unable to plan their lives or support their families effectively. It is unacceptable that these contracts continue to be used, often by large, profit-driven corporations, to the detriment of workers' rights and dignity. The Labour Party has long stood for fairness and workers' rights. I believe it is crucial now, more than ever, to act on this commitment and put an end to zero-hours contracts. This step will not only protect workers but also promote fair and just employment practices across the nation.I sincerely hope that the Labour Party will prioritize this issue and fulfil its promise to abolish zero-hours contracts.

WASHINGTON – Acting Secretary of Labor Julie Su today released the following statement on news of a final contract agreement between the United Steelworkers and Blue Bird Corp, one of the nation’s leading manufacturers of low- and zero-emission school buses.“Congratulations to the United Steelworkers and Blue Bird on their dedication and perseverance in achieving a first contract. As President Biden and I have said, collective bargaining works. This agreement is proof-positive that when workers and employers sit down at the bargaining table together, they can come to a deal that achieves stability for the employer and better and safer conditions for their workers.“Far too often, employers engage in harmful stall tactics to undercut worker voice and avoid entering into a first contract with a newly formed union. This historic agreement is an example of collective bargaining done right. I applaud the United Steelworkers and Blue Bird for demonstrating the power and benefits of worker voice.“I also want to recognize both parties for their leadership, reinforcing that the EV transition and good union jobs go together. Through these negotiations, the United Steelworkers and Blue Bird Corp. are charting a future where union workers, high-road businesses and clean energy keep our country running. This progress will benefit their workers, their company and our country.”
